International travel in 2021

My last update came to you during our last few days in Thailand, while today's update is being penned from the scorching coast of Florida. The time between has been a mad rush of coordinating the launch of Ghost 4.0 this past Tuesday — which I'll be talking more about in my next post.

But first, let me tell you about the journey to get here.

What it's like to fly in 2021

If you've followed me for a while, you'll know I've lived out of a suitcase for a full decade at this point. Long before "digital nomad" was a phrase that existed, my family traveled as I was growing up - and then I eventually carried on doing the same, working remotely as a web designer. Suffice to say, international flights have been one of the few constants in my life.

Kym and I took our last international flight at the end of February in 2020. We went to the canary islands for a week to spend some time on a friend's sailboat and get some useful experience. We wore masks the entire journey there and back, and I vividly remember people staring at us and shaking their heads like we were crazy conspiracy theorists. About 3 days after we got back to Thailand, most of the world started going into full lockdowns.

A full year later, we set out to fly once more. Now under completely different circumstances and, all-in-all, I would describe it as one of the least-fun, most-stressful travel experiences I've ever had.
